Wat Chaimongkhon (Wat Chao Phraya Thai)

Known locally as ‘Wat Yai’, Wat Chaimongkhon was built 1357 by King U-Thong. The temple features a central pagoda built by King Naresuan. The pagoda is tall enough to dominate the vicinity’s skyline. Originally constructed at the end of the 16th century, the pagoda was built so tall because King Naresuan wanted the temple to outshine the Burmese-built Phu Khao Thong temple. It contains Sri Lankan relics of the Lord Buddha. This is a nice temple to visit, and is fairly accessible if you are on a short trip.

How to get there: Wat Chaimongkhon is located very near Songkhla Railway Station and accessible on foot from the centre of town or by Songtaew (10 Baht).
