Phu Khao Ya
Phu Khao Ya (Grass Hill), also known as Khao Hua Lan (Bald Hill) or Khao Phi (Ghost Hill) is extraordinary in that it is a geographical anomaly. This average-sized hill is entirely void of trees leaving it looking, as local residents say, like a ‘Swiss pasture’. Although you shouldn’t wait for singing nuns or herds of goats, Phu Khao Ya is worth a visit if you are in the area. The hill offers a nice even layer of grass which provides very different scenery during the rainy season. The hill supports walking paths and it also provides a good place to take in views of surrounding Ranong whilst having a picnic.
How to get there: Phu Khao Ya is situated 12 kilometres to the south of Ranong and easily accessible by Songthaews from the town.
