Tak Bat Dokmai (Making merit with Flowers Festival) 2017

July 8 - 10, 2017

Venue: Wat Phra Phutthabat, Saraburi

The Saraburi provincial authorities in cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) are inviting Buddhists, and local and international visitors to witness the unique annual festival “Tak Bat Dokmai” where devotees will make merit with offerings of ‘Dok Khao Phansa’ flowers to the local monks. As always, the event takes place at Wat Phra Phutthabat – the iconic tourist attraction of Saraburi province.

Tak Bat Dokmai is usually held during Khao Phansa or the Buddhist Lent period. During the festival, Dok Khaosa which is Saraburi’s indigenous yellow and white flower will be in full bloom. So the local people gather handfuls of the flower and offer them to the monks as a way of making merit.

There are two chances during to offer flowers, in the morning when monks make their rounds for alms and in the afternoon when the monks ascend the steps of the temple to pay their respect to the Buddha’s Footprint which is at the top. It is such a fascinating sight to see for anyone wanting to experience a unique local experience while travelling in Thailand.
