Sukhothai Loi Krathong and Candle Festival 2025 continues with key traditional and cultural activities, adapted in tone to align with the national mourning period, while preserving the spiritual and historical essence of Sukhothaiโ€™s heritage.

The event organizers have announced an update on festival activities that will proceed this year, with adjustments made to ensure appropriateness during the period of mourning. The festival remains a celebration of Sukhothai’s timeless culture, craftsmanship, and devotion.


Festival Activities Include:

  • ๐ŸŒ… Welcoming the Dawn of Happiness
    Offering alms of rice and dried food to nine monks
    at Wat Traphang Thong, Mueang Kao Subdistrict, Mueang Sukhothai District, Sukhothai Province.

  • ๐Ÿ‘‘ Ceremony to Pay Homage to the Ancient Kings of Sukhothai
    at the King Ramkhamhaeng the Great Monument, Sukhothai Historical Park.

  • ๐ŸŽŽ Grand Parade of Krathongs and Lanterns
    Parade of large and small Krathongs, hanging lanterns, offering trays, and flower trays.

  • ๐ŸŽญ Cultural Parade from Nine Districts (5 November 2025)
    Organized by the Department of Local Administration, Sukhothai Province.

  • ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Candlelight Procession
    A solemn and graceful ceremony honoring tradition.

  • ๐ŸŒ• Royal Krathong Floating Ceremony
    Floating of Royal Krathongs in Tra Pang Ta Kuan (Main Pond).

  • ๐Ÿฎ Cultural Exhibitions & Local Market
    Featuring traditional displays, handicrafts, food stalls, and Krathong-making activities.

  • ๐Ÿš “Khao Kwan Wan Len Fai” Activity
    A special Sukhothai festive dinner celebrating unity and gratitude.

  • ๐Ÿ’ก Sukhothai Light and Sound Show
    A magnificent historical performance depicting the glory of the Sukhothai Kingdom.

  • ๐ŸŽจ Traditional Thai Performances
    Including Khon (masked dance drama), puppet shows, and classical music.

  • ๐ŸŒธ Legend of Tao Sri Chulalak Performance
    Along with Thai instrumental music by local students.

  • ๐Ÿฅ‹ Muay Thai Kard Chuek & Krabi Krabong Demonstrations
    Showcasing Thailand’s ancient martial arts traditions.

  • ๐ŸŽ† Traditional Fireworks Display
    “Ploy Talai Fai Phaniang” — ancient-style fireworks illuminating the night sky.

  • ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Daily at 9:21 PM:
    Lighting of “Takan” (earthen lamps) in mourning of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.
