Songkran in Phra Pradaeng

 Venue: Around Phra Pradaeng Municipal Office Building, Samut Prakan Songkran in Phra Pradaeng or also known as ‘Songkran Paklat’ is the ‘Raman’ (a group of Burmese-Thai) tradition of celebrating the Songkran Festival. The Raman celebration has been continuously held since the old days with uniqueness on the last day of the festivity (one week after 13 April). Every village works together to create a beautiful parade, including elaborate floral wagons, which ‘Raman’ girls and ‘Loi Chai’ boys and Miss Songkran also tag along for the ceremony. Ramans and Loi Chai wear traditional attire during the celebration. Birds and fish are taken to Wat Prodket Chettharam where they will be set free. It is believed that any person who sets animals free will be saved from their own bad fortune and will live a long life. After finishing the ceremony, on their way back, people from the villages respectfully throw water at each other. The people of Phra Pradaeng have been preserving this manner of celebration for a long time. Interested visitors are welcome to join the ceremony.
