Phichit Long Boat Racing Festival 2017

September 2 - 3, 2017

Venue: Nan River in front of Tha Luang Temple, Phichit

Phichit Long Boat Racing Festival is the original and oldest boat race of its kind held in Thailand and is also regarded as the one of the grandest and most spectacular boat races in the Kingdom.

Each year there is a simulation of the Royal Barge Procession, carrying the Royal Trophy for the winning teams of all three long boat types, and a procession of traditional long boats.

This year, the Phichit Long Boat Racing Festival features three race types, large-sized boats with up to 55 rowers, medium-sized with not more than 40 rowers and small boat of not more than 30 crew members.

Tourists and residents enjoy viewing the races of various traditional long boats as well as cheering and leading support to individual boat teams.

The Long Boat Racing Festival is organised annually during Thai Buddhist Lent, around September or October when the river peaks at high tide. It is held by local Thai villagers alongside rivers in the province where larger waterways converge.

Phichit has up to 40 long boats used for racing purposes in the province and in other neighboring areas including Phitsanulok, Sing Buri, Ang Thong and Ayutthaya.
