The Illuminated Boat Procession is a breathtaking annual festival along the Mekong River in Nakhon Phanom. This celebration showcases stunningly decorated boats and rafts adorned with candles and handmade lanterns that float along the river to honor the Lord Buddha and make offerings to the mythical Naga serpent believed to inhabit the waters. This vibrant tradition is said to wash away people’s worries and bring them good fortune. The festival also includes a competition to decorate large boats with intricate light displays.
