Chinese New Year is one of the most exciting traditional Chinese festival around the world, Thailand is no different. The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first lunar month and this year, it falls on 14 February 2010. With the spectacular light display combine with the annual music events, it is definitely a must see. One can see the culture of both the Thais and Chinese which blended together to perfection. To top it all, you can taste the variety of food from endless store vendors.
Bangkok, the Samphanthawong District is the biggest China town in Thailand. It’s also well–known as “Golden Road” because there are more than 130 gold shops along Yaowarat Road. Its people still preserve their ways of life, tradition and culture. That’s why, the Chinese New Year celebration in this square is a major festival and well organized every year.   
The festival given the volume of people expected in the area, probably the best way to get there is going to be the subway (underground / MRT) to Hualampong Railway Station and then walk into Yaowarat Road.
