Bangkok’s 10th International Festival of Music and Dance kicked off in earnest yesterday (September 15, 2008), offering a range of performances right through until October 13. The festival is dedicated to the memory of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani, who as Honorary Chairperson and Royal Patron was key to establishing the festival on the international calendar and ensuring its continued success.

Bangkok’s 10th International Festival of Music and Dance
kicked off in earnest yesterday (September 15, 2008), offering a range of performances right through until October 13. The festival is dedicated to the memory of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani, who as Honorary Chairperson and Royal Patron was key to establishing the festival on the international calendar and ensuring its continued success.
This year’s event continues to attract performers from all over the world who offer the best in opera, ballet, contemporary dance and jazz. In addition, the festival features performances by symphony orchestras. Its extensive program includes the Russian Bashkir State Opera Theatre performing Aida (September 16 and 18, 2008), the Russian Bashkir State Ballet Theatre performing two-act ballet Raymonda (September 19, 2008) and Nutcracker (September 20 and 21, 2008), the Russian Symphony Orchestra in concert September 22, 2008, the Zurich Ballet performing Winds In The Void (September 24, 2008), Introdans, The Netherlands, presented by The Netherlands Embassy (27 September, 2008), the National Theatre of Korea performing Korean Fantasy (1 October, 2008), the Paul Taylor Contemporary Dance Company from New York (October 3 and 4, 2008), Lua Hadar and Twist Jazz Band and James Morrison and the Group performing (October 6, 2008), Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras from Spain (October 8, 2008), ‘Sankriti’ Classical Dances of India (October 11, 2008), and and G-Strings and Bconnected Jazz Band (October 12, 2008), and Inaki Urlezaga Group from Argentina (October 13, 2008).
