Siam Paragon Bangkok stages international orchid contest and exhibition
International orchid agriculturists are convening again to compete for a royal trophy and prizes at the 7th Siam Paragon Bangkok Royal Orchid from 06 to 12 June 2013.
Previous entries had come from Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore. Again the international orchid agriculturists will be competing for HRH Princess Sirindhorn Trophy, cash prize, and certificate.
Both Thai and foreign orchid agriculturists are invited to enter their orchids in this year's conteston 05 June 2013 from 08.00 - 13.00 hours at MA Floor, Siam Paragon. Winning orchids will be showcased at the 7th Siam Paragon Bangkok Royal Orchid Paradise 2013.
The 7th Siam Paragon Bangkok Royal Orchid Paradise 2013 takes the theme of 'Amazing Orchids of the Nation' in honour of Thailand's Her Majesty the Queen's 81st Birthday Anniversary. The event is staged in cooperation with the Thai Ministry of Agricultural and Cooperatives, Department of Agricultural Extension, Department of Agriculture, Horticultural Science Society of Thailand, Royal Horticulture Society of Thailand. Admission is free.
This year's orchid exhibition features nine species and 120 types : Vanda and Ascocenda; Cattleya; Oncidium and Cymbidium; Paphiopedilum; Phalaenopsis; Renanthera, Aragnis, Mokara; genuine orchid; orchid hybrid competing for HRH Princess Sirindhorn Trophy, cash prizes, and certificates.
Committees consist of orchid experts who consider the plant's overall presentation, colour and petal formation, shape of flowersize, thickness and texture of flower, quality and form of flowers of and size plant.
Muang Thai Life Assurance Public Company Limited is sponsoring an additional competition featuring Rhynchostylis orchids with the Thai Minister of Agricultural and Cooperatives Trophy as top prize. The criteria include a stipulation that the orchid must have a minimum of two stems, have at least two floral stems. Flowers must be fragrant with at least two thirds in bloom.
The special exhibition in the event this year features the magnificent Rhynchostylis orchids and a 2.5-metre high model albino elephant made of Rhynchostylis orchids which will be displayed at the Botanical Garden, M Floor, Siam Paragon. There will also be mythical creatures made of orchids on display.
Displays of the award-winning orchids from each of the nine species on display will be supplemented by discussion with orchid experts. Activities include orchid workshops, orchid art exhibition, 'Amazing Orchids of the Nation' orchid art contest in which the winner will receive a HRH Princess Sirindhorn Trophy and scholarship from Toshiba Thailand Company Limited, and 'Returning Wild Orchids to the Wild' CSR event. Orchid and gardening equipment will be on sale at special prices.
