31st BDMS Bangkok Marathon 2018
November 18, 2018
The ‘BDMS Bangkok Marathon’ celebrates its 31st edition in 2018 and as per usual will be staged on the third Sunday of November, which this year is the 18th of the month. A field of over 30,000 local and international participants is expected. Throughout their run they’ll have the privilege of seeing the Thai capital as only a marathon runner on race day can. It’s exactly the kind of new and existing perspectives on Thailand that the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is encouraging visitors to experience with its Amazing Thailand ‘Open to the New Shades’ communication concept. Registration is open from now until 31 October or until all places have been filled. This can be done online at www.bkkmarathon.com or www.gotorace.com or in person at the National Jogging Association of Thailand (National Olympic Committee of Thailand) at 226 Sri Ayutthaya Road in Dusit, Bangkok. The ‘BDMS Bangkok Marathon’ is a high profile event on the sporting calendar. Starting and finishing at Sanam Chai Road in front of the spectacular Grand Palace, the 2018 race takes in various city landmarks along its route including Sanam Luang, Thammasat University and Saranrom Park. It also crosses the Somdet Phra Pin-Klao Bridge over the Chao Phraya River and makes use of the Elevated Borommaratchachonnani Road. There are five race categories making up the ‘BDMS Bangkok Marathon’. These are the full marathon (42.195 km) starting at midnight sharp and which has a six hour cut-off at 06.00 Hrs.; the half marathon (21.100 km) starting at 02.00 Hrs with a three hour cut-off at 05.00 Hrs.; the mini marathon (10.55 km) and mini marathon for ages 12-19 starting at 04.30 Hrs. with a one hour 30 minute cut-off at 06.00 Hrs; and the micro marathon (five km) starting at 05.15 Hrs. with a 45 minute cut-off at 06.00 Hrs.
