This is a rare treat! Open only 4 months (as of Nov-2004) and the first floor of this quaint little two-story British pub/restaurant is already has a good number of customers! As soon as you see 'The Black Swan' you know you have come across something a bit different. Even from outside it oozes authenticity, right down to the pub sign above the door. Inside it's cosy and homely, and with the expatriate clientele and the visitors from the area's 5-star hotels, you really could be in the UK. Two British 'landlords' (managers) have put their hearts into this place - British food, British standards (they dug out the bottom of the building to install a water treatment system) and British attitude - right down to the 'miserable British landlord' (his words, not mine!). Food prices are a bit higher than usual, but take a look at their spotless kitchens (which you can - landlord David Robertson will be only too pleased to show you round) and you can see why. Soup of the Day costs 100 Baht, Steak and Kidney Pie comes in at 390 Baht and Steak 550 Baht. Kilkenny Beer costs 190 Baht and Guinness 170 Baht. Pipes are cleaned every two days here so, in David's own words, 'If the (draft) beer's not fresh you don't pay for it." It'll be fresh... I am sure about that! Getting there could not be easier. Simply cross the walk bridge from Sukhumvit MRT and Asok BTS - The Black Swan is on the opposite side of the road to the Volvo dealership and right at the foot of the BTS steps. No happy hour or discounts available. Take a look inside and you wouldn't expect anything like that!
