Koh Phangan in Surat Thani

Koh Phangan
Surat Thani

Koh Phangan is famous for its "Full Moon Party" at Rin Beach. This well-known party is probably the biggest beach party on earth. Koh Phangan has two sister islands: the bigger Koh Samui to the south and the smaller Koh Tao to the north.

The busiest time of the island is from November to March and in the month of August. The month of September to early November is the wettest months.

There are many things to do on the island. Snorkeling is very popular. Diving trips to Koh Ma and tours of the Angthong National Marine Park are highly recommended. On the island, there is a national park "Than Sadet National Park". The park is a great place for hikes and treks. Numerous beautiful waterfalls can be seen on the island: Than Sadet waterfall, Phaeng waterfall, Than Prapat waterfall and Than Prawet waterfall.

Several accommodations including hotels, resorts and guesthouses are available on the island.

How to get there: From Samui Island, it is the easiest way traveling to Phangan Island. It takes only 30 minutes by boat from Koh Samui. Ticket is available at a local travel agent.

From Surathani City, it takes 3 ½ hours by boat to Koh Phangan. Night ferry leaving from Suratthani city (walking distance from bus stations Talat Kaset 1 and 2) at 11.00 p.m. and arriving at Thong Sala pier - Koh Phangan at 6.00 a.m. It costs 400 Baht for nice sleep at mattresses on boat. Night ferry leaving from Thong Sala - Koh Phangan for Surathani city at 10.00 p.m. and arriving around 5.00 - 6.00 a.m. It costs 400 Baht.
