Pa La-U Waterfalls (Pa La-U Noi (small) and Pa La-U Yai (big)) are the main attractions in Kaeng Khrachan National Park. Although actually in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, if you are in Cha-am (or Hua Hin) they are well worth a visit. The park features a number of attractions, including a small reservoir, but none compete with the falls themselves. Pa La-U Yai has eleven tiers, each tier flowing into the next producing very eye pleasing symmetry. It is possible to swim in the waterfalls' pools and at the weekends a great many people (mainly locals) do. It can get very crowded! Although best viewed in the rainy season, the waterfall is active throughout the year and does not disappoint. At certain times of year, the area around the park is literally carpeted with butterflies.
Details: Admission to the park is 200 Baht per person.
How to get there: Kaeng Khrachan National Park is 60 kilometers from Hua Hin off Highway 3175. Given the distance and the fact that some of the road to the waterfalls is quite difficult to pass, it might be best to approach a trip here as part of one of the many tours offered in the area. You can though rent four-wheeled vehicles if you feel up to trying the journey yourself.
