Ao Phang Nga National Park in Phang-Nga

Ao Phang Nga National Park
Phang-Nga

Ao Phang Nga National Park is a large park of around 400 square kilometers. It comprises around 40 extremely attractive, mainly uninhabited islands. The area features the scenery of green waters set against dramatic limestone cliffs, some of which are up to 300 meters high.

The highlight of the park is though its 'karst' formations - huge limestone structures that jut out of the ground in regular patterns and ultimately form islands. Some of the islands have caves with prehistoric cave paintings and a number of items found (tools, etc.) offer evidence that the area was a habitat for pre-historic man.

Many people navigate the park in kayaks and this is certainly the best way to explore the canals that make their way through mangrove forests which ultimately arrive at a number of 'hongs' (caves that have collapsed and are therefore open to the elements).

Details: Ao Phang Nga National Park
Address: 80 Moo 1 Ban Ta Dan, Koh Panyee, Amphor Muang, Phang Nga 82000
Tel: +66 7648 1188, +66 7648 1163

How to get there: Around 10 kilometers from Phang Nga town, the park headquarters are located on highway No. 4144. However, most people get to the park by boat and although it is possible to arrange your own transport, most people involve themselves in the tours that are organized from the mainland or from Phuket.
