The 'Long Neck' women of Karen villages dotted around Mae Hong Son have become one of the lasting images of Thailand. For many, a visit to these intriguing people is an absolute must if in the Mae Hong Son area. The province is also an area of temples and religion. Often temples are set against a backdrop of wonderful scenery which depending on the time of year can include swirls of mist and fog. Wat Pha That Doi Kong Moo, Wat Chong Kham and Wat Hua Wiang are among the more important temples in the area.  Mae Hong Son has a wealth of historical and cultural sites and if you venture into the area you really should explore this aspect of the province.
