Sport Activities in Bangkok

Like the rest of Thailand, Bangkok is full of sport fanatics! They are plenty of options for sporty visitors...

At the weekend in Bangkok you will find it difficult to go out without watching a football game and when Paradorn Srichapan is doing well in a tennis tournament, or James Wattana doing well at the snooker... well... you can imagine! Bangkok is a great place for 'armchair' sportsmen and women, but it is also a place to play sport and watch live sport. Sports facilities offer tennis, badminton and other 'mainstream' sports. Bangkok also has two race courses if you fancy watching the horses and it also has a couple of major sports stadiums that hold international sporting events. Whatever the sport it is usually between Thailand and another country in the region, but these stadiums also host annual pre-season warm-up matches between English Premier League clubs and the Thai national team - if you are in Bangkok at this time it is well worth catching the game... although a partisan crowd most Bangkokians support a premier league club so it's cheers at both ends! Thailand's capital provides a feast of golf courses. Novices and starters have a great opportunity to get a round of golf in at a price that's not going to break the bank. But if you are a seasoned pro, you will love golf in Bangkok - the courses are designed to international standards and are quite a challenge! Probably one of Bangkok's more important sports is Thai Boxing (Muay Thai). Bangkok is the centre of the global interest in Thailand's national sport and filled with fight venues and training courses alongside places to watch and take part in a variety of other martial arts. Of course there are a number of sport activities available in Bangkok which are not really sports at all. Paintball is just a bit of fun really, and there are a number of places around the capital to try it out. There are also a few entirely local sports like 'Takaew' where players kick a small wicker ball over a net to an opposing team - fascinating to watch and there's often an impromptu game being played around town... I wouldn't try it though unless you are very supple! If you are a sports fan, Bangkok is not going to disappoint so make the most of it while you are here.
