Ayutthaya Historical Park

The Ayutthaya Historical Park was designated a UNESCO world heritage site in 1991. The park covers the old town of Ayutthaya. Ayutthaya used to be the capital city of Thailand for over 417 years until it was destroyed by Burmese Army in 1767. The Ayutthaya Historical Park consists of temples, palaces and buildings ruined since the Ayutthaya period.

Major attractions of the site are as follows: Wat Ratchaburana, Wat Mahathat, Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, Wat Phra Ram, Wat Lokayasutha, Wiharn Phra Mongkhon Bopit, Wat Lokayasutha, Wat Yai Chai Mongkon, Phra Chedi Suriyothai, Wat Phanan Choeng, Wat Chaiwatthanaram, Wat Phu Khao Thong, Ayutthaya historical Study Centre, Royal Elephant Kraal

The world famous Buddha's head image in a tree thrunk is located in Wat Mahathat. If you want to see everything in the park, it will take several days. If you want to arrange a one-day trip, a private tour or transport is needed.

How to get there:
By Train: The train departs for Ayutthaya from Bangkok's Hua Lamphong Station every hour from 04:20 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

By Bus: It is a 2 hour trip from Bangkok to Ayutthaya. A bus departs from Ayutthaya every 20 minutes.

By Boat: Traveling to Ayutthaya by boat is enjoyable. Many tour companies operate cruises to Ayutthaya, which include lunch or dinner. It is advisable to make a reservation in advance.
