Phuket Race Week starts tomorrow (July 19, 2007) and promises four days of “international-standard yacht racing” off the island’s east coast. This is the fourth time the event will run and this year it has attracted a lot of competitors, with reports of around 40 vessels confirming their presence in six classes before the event’s official registration date!
Although yachts from a number of countries in Asia are present, the event has a strong Thailand focus. Phuket’s usual strong low-season winds promise some great sailing, while the event’s “five-star” location and schedule of parties promises fun for all.
All races start at 10:00 from the Evason Phuket Resort with shuttle boats available for yachts anchored in Ao Chalong. The event will be administered from Evason Phuket & Six Senses Spa’s lower sea view terrace (Into The Beach), next to the jetty. This is where official post-race parties will take place. Entertainment will be available at the Regatta Tavern and at the Evason-based Regatta Parties and will feature “Li'l Willy and the Fabulous Hepcats”.
