Thailand’s world famous pandas spent even more time in the spotlight recently when they were formally married at a ceremony performed in front of thousands of witnesses.
Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui, who are on loan from China, are at an age when they will begin mating and zoo officials felt that it was time for their union to be formalized with a ceremony. Their traditional Thai wedding created real excitement in Chiang Mai where local residents and foreign visitors dressed up in panda costumes and formed processions that terminated at the city zoo (where the pair are housed). Much to the delight of the crowds present, after the ceremony Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui celebrated their union by enjoying fruit cake and a short nap. Click here for more on the pandas and the zoo.
