This is a big one… and it’s looking good. The Koh Samui Music Festival (KSMF 2005) takes place 23 September - 2 October 2005 and it has pulled some major international names alongside some first rate local talent. The weekend of September 24 sees the festival’s flagship event, the ‘John Lee Hooker’ tribute including Jerry Lee Lewis, Blues Brothers (Dan Akroyd and Jim |
Belushi) Canned Heat, Big Brother & The Holding Company (Janis Joplin'sbacking band) and Zakiya Hooker (daughter of the man himself).
Things get a bit more ‘rootsy' later in the week with UB40, The Wailers (Bob Marley's backing band) and Jools Holland (ex-squeeze) alongside Thai favourites T-Bone and Modern Dog. Other attractions include the Bay Area Blues Society Caravan of All Stars Revue, The British Blues All Stars and The Soi Dog Blues Band, Cannonball and FLOW. With KSMF 2004 attracting tens of thousands of visitors, KSMF 2005 is expected to see an audience of 100,000 over the period of the event. Music happens in the evening leaving the days free for family orientated activities including outdoor theatre, shadow theatre and performances of traditional half-life size puppets performing traditional stories by Joe Louis’s Lakorn Lek.
There is also a wide range of activities for children - all of which are free of charge! Activities have titles such as ‘Art Attack’, ‘Electric Boat Competition’, and ‘Beach Theatre’ (including fire-eaters, fire-dancers, jugglers, acrobats and ‘sword-swallowers’ performing on Chaweng beach). If you are into music and you are in Thailand, this is the place to be… ticket details and other information coming soon.
