The ‘Jazz Royale Festival’ takes place 9-17 December 2006 commemorating the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King of Thailand's accession to the throne.
With part of the proceeds going to the King's royal patronage projects, the festival will be held in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Phuket and feature some of jazz’s biggest names.
Those already confirmed for the event include McCoy Tyner, Kenny G, The Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band (under direction of Slide Hampton), James Moody, Chris Botti, Nancy Wilson, Ahmad Jamal, Regina Carter, Georgie Fame, Marta Topferova and the Oriental Jazz Quartet.
Organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in conjunction with some of Thailand’s leading corporate entities, the event is a fitting way to honor His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who is himself a jazz musician.
Venues for the festival include Sanam Suapa in the Dusit district of Bangkok, The Horse Shoe Point in Pattaya, and Karon Beach, Phuket. Ticket prices in Bangkok are 2,000 Baht, while other prices are 1,500 at other locations.
