Maruekkhathayawan Palace (‘Palace of Love and Hope’) is not often visited by tourists but it is a rare treat for those who do. Built of golden teak by King Rama VI in 1923, it is amongst the oldest of the royal palaces in Thailand, and ranks alongside the most attractive. The building has been restored to its former glory and features spacious, airy rooms and halls that are naturally cool. Three sections of the building face the sea as desihned by King Rama VI himself. If you have the time, this is a great place to wander around, especially if you are trying the beat hot weather.
