As modern life places greater demands on people, many turn to 'alternative' approaches to combating stress, fatigue and illness. Thailand has a rich history in traditional medicine comprising Thai massage techniques and herbal medicines. Trends in health and 'wellbeing' over recent years have brought these approaches to the forefront, stimulating a constant demand for training offering an insight into both. Of course, although training courses do exist elsewhere in the world, Thailand offers the most authentic training in an authentic context. To cater for the increased demand in training for these areas, a large number of more commercial centres have emerged to complement the traditional institutions and establishments that have existed in Thailand for hundreds of years. Many ofthese courses specifically cater to visitors with training in English and western instructors often teaching alongside Thai practitioners. To become a master of how to manipulate 72,000 meridians (or 'Sen') through massage, or prescribe herbs (singly and in combination) from around 700 plant varieties for the benefit of others, one of Thailand's many Massage and Traditional Medicine training courses are a must. Below is an overview of some of the courses currently available:
