In Chiang Mai temples have the added advantage of location – often temples are set against a backdrop of mountains and hills and found in swirls of mist or fog. The province hosts a number of important temples. Wat Phra Borommathat Doi Suthep is probably Chiang Mai's most important site for visitors, and certainly its most visible while Wat Chedi Luang once housed the Emerald Buddha – the most revered Buddha image in the Kingdom. There are of course numerous others worthy of a visit.
