Phra Wat Chetaphon (Wat Pho) in Bangkok is widely regarded as being the chief school of massage Thailand. It is here that legions of traditional massage practitioners learn their skills through very intensive, detailed and extensive courses. Wat Pho offers a series of courses to foreigners alongside its core courses; they are though, very different offerings. A visitor might receive a massage certificate after an introductory course that lasted as few as 10 days whereas a full ‘Maw Nuad’ (Massage Doctor) programme last around 14 ‘semesters’ and takes four years to complete. Such is its popularity that it has opened addition establishments in Nonthaburi and Chiang Mai. Courses available include General Thai Massage, Therapeutic and Healing Massage,
Thai Fundamental Massage Points, Foot Massage Course, Oil Massage and Aromatherapy and
Infant and Child Massage.
